Overnight in Oaxaca Advanced

This week in Mexico we drive South to Oaxaca for camping on the Rio Santo Domingo .

We will meet you at the airport in Mexico City, spend the night in Puebla city, from where we head into the more or less barren lands of the state of Oaxaca. There we pack up our boats with camping gear and food, and get ready for three or four days over-nighting on the beautiful and remote Santo Domingo.   After several miles paddling through desert surroundings, the class III-IV white water picks up and continues in and out of beautiful canyons.  We camp on sandy beaches and enjoy the leisure of having everything we need with us in our boats.   The surroundings become progressively lush, and by the end we are in the jungle.   Arriving finally in the town of Santo Domingo,  we are welcomed by a local family that provides us dinner.

We then drive to the town of Valle National where the river comes out of in the 10,000 foot high Mountains of Eastern Oaxaca. We paddle down class III (IV) rapids and find accommodations in beautiful cabins alongside the river.  Trip Report from 2009(Photos)
