Winter is an ideal time to learn and practice your basic boating skills – in the security and comfort of a heated swimming pool!  You can learn to roll and find absolute confidence in your roll. You can be practicing the basics of rodeo while the snow is falling outdoors.

Our in-the-boat exercises, teaching progressions and individual feedback, all will help you build the skills and comfort needed for when the Spring comes. Pool classes are offered, November through May.

Indoor Pool Rolling: Learning to roll is a great way to begin kayaking.  You will first develop comfort tipping and getting out of the boat.  Then you will practice steps along a continuing progression toward a smooth and effortless roll.  Most people need at least three lessons to learn to roll and several practice sessions after that.

Options: If you just want to practice on your own, feel free to come to the pool in an Open Session. There is an instructional package of six lessons for $180 with unlimited Open practice. In either case please register online through our registration system, or call the office for help.

Who: Everyone can benefit from pool practice.  Beginners can learn the basics to develop a reliable roll.  Advanced beginners and intermediates can focus on off-side rolls, hand-rolls and other techniques to improve reliability in all conditions. Those interested in taking the sport to the next step to improve balance and strength, should try rodeo.
