Wilderness 1st Aid and CPR

Philosophy

As careful as we all may try to be on the water, eventually we, or someone we paddle with, will get injured on the water. It is important to be prepared for such an event. As an old saying goes, “I would rather have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it”. The ‘it’ in this instance is knowledge of how to respond to emergencies. You have taken the time to learn to paddle; now take the time to learn how to take care of yourself and others when someone is injured.

This course is great for paddlers, hikers, school teachers, camp counselors, instructors, and anyone who spends time outdoors.  Even on the Billy Goat Trail, just up the river from The White House, it can take 45 minutes or more to get help to an injured person.  In this class you will learn the skills you will need to help in a variety of situations – and not just the skills, but how to think.
