Intermediate Progressive Learning Package (PLP)
Starting each month, May to September
All in one month of paddling, this program takes you on a big step toward paddling class lll white water. You will build confidence in your skills, increase your comfort level in challenging rapids, and plan your own river excursions. With a friendly, certified instructor, you will follow the Intermediate progression of skills along with a group of similarly-skilled paddlers.
The PLP requires a month-long commitment, including every weekend and at least one week night each week. Package programs begin the first weekend of every month of the season, May through October. If you are unable to commit to the PLP, check out our intermediate kayaking package.
The program schedule is as follows. (Because our groups are limited to 4 or 5 students, we sometimes can vary the schedule to accommodate the group’s needs).
- Week I: On the first weekend, we meet Saturday and Sunday afternoons for paddling S-Turn. After assessing students skills, and reviewing basic strokes, we’ll focus on what skills you need to improve. On Thursday, we meet at Anglers for rolling and strokes technique.
- Week II: The next Saturday, another river classes allows us to review what we’ve learned and to work on rolling in adverse conditions. We meet at the Lock 6 Feeder Canal on Thursday evening for another stroke and rolling technique class.
- Week III: This week, the river run the potomac class will take you to a challenging part of the river that seems appropriate, and another Thursday evening stroke to sharpen your skills.
- Week IV: We’ll take an overnight trip on a trip to the Lower Yough or the Cheat Canyon. If you haven’t joined one of our river trips, you really can’t miss this one, to test your skills in these beautiful settings only be a few hours away from DC.
Cost comparison: The Intermediate PLP costs $650 and provides a total of 34 hrs of instruction in small (5:1) groups under the guidance of a friendly, ACA certified instructor. At $20/hr., this package is a considerable savings over individual classes and far less than any comparable program. It includes all necessary equipment and free practice on Tuesdays. Why pay more?
