Advanced
As life-long boaters ourselves, we continue to find ways to strengthen our own skills, and believe that we have always more to learn. Progress to an Advanced level arises from a variety of related components:
Physical fitness: any kind of cardiovascular endurance workouts, attainment workouts up the river, Cheat Race Training, Upper Yough Training.
Skill development: practice on the gates at the Brookmont Feeder Canal, advanced slalom stroke workouts.
Whitewater challenge: Dickerson Workouts and the Blue Card Test: trying to accomplish the eddies and gates at Dickerson.
Experience and development of river judgment: paddling West Virginia rivers, scouting and running rapids. Trips outside of the DC area are available with Liquid Adventures.
Advanced swiftwater rescue and safety training: develop understanding of hazards, prepare yourself to react appropriately and proactively, and build your confidence in the face on danger.
We invite you to join our advanced program, and challenge yourself in more difficult white water environments. Our clinics and workouts are designed to build your skills and judgment so that you are confident in Class IV.
